Allied moves to douse rumour
7th Feb 2012
LONDON, Feb 7 – Pacific Rim producer Allied Gold Mining has rejected speculation in Papua New Guinea over its position as owner and operator of the Simberi gold mine.
Responding to media reports and comments by some provincial and island representatives, Allied Gold insists it has the support of the PNG national government and landowner group for its mining and exploration licences covering Simberi Island and nearby islands in the Tabar group.
Allied Gold says the PNG Mineral Resources Authority and the Prime Minister's Office both confirmed its licences and the Simberi Landowner Group publicly stated its continued support for the company and its operations on the Simberi mining lease.
The Simberi mine has produced over 250,000oz of gold over four years and is increasing production to 100,000oz pa from the September quarter.
The mine employs over 600 people and the company continues to work with the landowners and all stakeholders to deliver employment, health and education infrastructure and business development benefits to the community.
