Exxaro says profit will jump
6th Feb 2012
JOHANNESBURG, Feb 6 – Diversified South African miner Exxaro Resources is forecasting a jump of up to 49% in attributable earnings for the year ended December 31, 2011 when it releases its audited financial results on February 23.
Strong demand and generally higher prices for most commodities are credited for the expected improved earnings of between R6,964M and R7,806M.
The coal business is expected to deliver higher operating profit than in 2010 primarily due to higher export volumes at higher international selling prices –despite lower sales volumes from operations reliant on Eskom.
The mineral sands business will also report a higher operating profit but the base metals business will suffer a consolidated net operating loss due to the end of operations at the Zincor refinery and a R516M hit on the carrying value of the Zincor property, plant and equipment.
