Craig Oliver Award nominees announced

ONE of Australia’s best emerging miners will be recognised with the Craig Oliver Award at the 2012 RIU Explorers Conference in Fremantle, Western Australia, expected to attract more than 700 delegates this month.
Nominees for the 2012 award announced this week are BC Iron, Emmerson Resources, Integra Mining, Kingsgate Consolidated, Northern Star Resources, Regis Resources, Sandfire Resources and Silver Lake Resources.
Independence Group took out last year’s inaugural award, which is named in honour of mining industry stalwart Craig Oliver, an executive of 20 years who died in the June 2010 plane crash in Congo, Africa, that killed all members of the Sundance Resources board. The 2012 award, also shown above – a unique silver, titanium, copper and gold sculpture created by Perth’s Thomas Meihofer Jewellers – will be presented by Craig Oliver’s sister, Janie Jones, and his daughter, Georgia Oliver, at the RIU Explorers Conference on Tuesday, February 21.
“He [Oliver] was an all-rounder who was involved in many aspects of the industry, including exploration, mining, financing and developing new projects, promoting companies and fighting political battles,” said Hanna.
“Craig’s infectious sense of humour and enthusiasm for all aspects of mining meant he was as popular in the office as he was on the drill site or down the mine.”
