Mill shutdown stops Nex Metals mine

JULY 3 – A mill safety shutdown has forced Nex Metals Exploration to stop mining at its 100%-owned Kookynie gold project 170km north of Kalgoorlie in Western Australia’s Eastern Goldfields.
Nex began a six-month toll treatment contract in February trucking ore from the Butterfly pit to Stone Resources Australia’s Brightstar Laverton treatment plant.
On March 12, WA Mines Department inspectors ordered the shutdown of the mill to rectify problems particularly in the crusher area. Stone Resources says the problems had not been addressed by previous site management.
Nex Metals continued carting ore to the mill until area constraints forced it to stop, and the decision to halt mining will reduce costs until the mill is back on line. Staffing and other costs have also been minimised.
The company says it now has a 25,514t stockpile at the Brightstar mill and a further 8683t ready for transport when milling recommences.
