Atlantic completes Windimurra upgrades
25th Jul 2012
JULY 25 – Windimurra vanadium mine operator Atlantic Ltd says it is already seeing significant improvement in the stability of processing operations from upgrading works at the project, 600km NE of Perth in Western Australia.
Atlantic says the $A14M modification of the Windimurra crushing, milling and beneficiation (CMB) circuit removes the design and construction shortcomings that impacted the company’s ability to ramp up production.
At full production capacity of 6300tpa contained vanadium, a target for the March 2013 quarter, Windimurra will meet about 7% of the world’s demand for vanadium.
The modifications include new screens to redirect fine ore containing clay from the crusher directly to beneficiation, bypassing the milling component and overcoming problems with blockages and flow restrictions caused by clay in the high pressure grinding rolls.
