Copper resource grows for Zambezi

25th Jul 2012

JULY 25 – A 50% increase in copper resources has moved Australian-based Zambezi Resources into the development phase of its100%-owned Kangaluwi project 180km east of Lusaka in Zambia.

The JORC-compliant Kangaluwi mineral resource calculated by AMC Consultants comprises 45Mt @ 0.67% Cu for 300,000t copper metal, up from the 2010 figure of 23Mt @ 0.85% for 200,000t –both at 0.3% cut-off grade. At 0.1% cut-off, the resource is 67Mt @ 0.52%.

The resource includes the Kangaluwi, Chisawa and Kalulu deposits within 7km of the known 28km strike and extends to 200m below the surface, with mineralisation open at depth.

The company plans to scope a Stage 1 oxide heap leach project for 7Mt of oxide and transitional material @ 0.7% Cu, to begin production by 2014 and followed by a Stage 2 sulphide project for the bulk of the resource.
